    Strategic Planning that WINS
Strategic planning is considered by most management and organization gurus to be the key to everything else that happens within an organization. Everything starts with the strategic plan. So doesn't every company have a strategic plan? Well I can answer that with a very definitive - maybe. Almost every CEO and President believes they have a strategic plan for their company, and to be fair, they are in some regards correct. They do have a clear sense of where they want to go and how they want to get there.

Yet, if a strategic plan was simply a statement of where the CEO wanted to go and how she intended to get there, it is unlikely there would be so many different schools of thought about strategic planning. There wouldn't be so many different methodologies, approaches and tools to help people do strategic planning, nor a cottage industry of consultants who specialize in strategic planning.

Why then are there so many different approaches to strategic planning if they all have the same end in mind? Let's keep in mind the real purpose of strategic planning is to win, and winning can only occur if the team executes flawlessly. We have all heard that a mediocre plan flawlessly executed is 100 times better than an outstanding plan poorly executed.
